Robbie Anderson – Carolina Panthers WR

  • $10.95 million cap number in 2022

Robbie Anderson‘s regression in 2021 was a blow to the wideout and the Carolina Panthers. There were some mitigating factors behind this, but the player also needs to take responsibility for costly individual errors en route to some career-low numbers across the board.

This is not what the Panthers had in mind when they gave Anderson a new deal after the wide receiver went over 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in 2020. Talk of a trade to the New England Patriots didn’t materialize this offseason and although the Temple product hinted he was contemplating retirement, he showed up to mandatory minicamp in readiness for the new campaign.

Based on last season’s production, Anderson is overpaid with his $10.95 million cap number. A figure that would be much steeper had Carolina not sorted out a contract restructure with the player before free agency.

Hopefully, Anderson can turn things around and become a prolific WR2 option opposite D.J. Moore. Anything less would see the Panthers move on from the player given that his cap hit will increase to an extortionate $21.71 million in the final year of his deal.

It’s been a dramatic few months for Anderson. What’s important for the player is focusing on football and putting everything else in the rearview mirror.
