What were some major observations from Day 2 of the Carolina Panthers’ mandatory minicamp ahead of the 2022 season?

The Carolina Panthers are in the midst of their mandatory minicamp as preparations gather pace for the 2022 campaign. One that will ultimately determine whether or not Matt Rhule can successfully lead the organization back to prominence.

Things have progressed encouragingly for the Panthers this offseason. A patient approach to free agency and the draft has left the roster looking better than the one that finished the 2021 campaign, but one or two problem positions remain for Carolina, who possesses enough salary-cap space to make something happen should they wish.

Many veteran players are not participating in team drills during the mandatory minicamp. But they are lending their support to younger guys from a coaching perspective as Rhule looks to make the Panthers a more player-orientated environment moving forward.

Whether this can translate into improved results is another matter. On this topic, here are five major observations from Day 2 of the Panthers’ mandatory minicamp.

Carolina Panthers WR Derek Wright makes his mark

With some prominent veterans still coaching from the sidelines, it gave the Carolina Panthers a chance to examine some younger members of the roster who are looking to stake their claim. One player that caught the eye was Derek Wright, an undrafted free-agent wide receiver out of Utah State.

According to Jonathan Alexander of the Charlotte Observer, Wright made a couple of nice plays and has been the standout performer among the young wideouts acquired by Carolina this offseason.

It might still be early days, but this is a solid foundation for Wright ahead of training camp. Although the Panthers’ depth at receiver is going to make things difficult.
