Baker Mayfield is a good scheme fit for the Carolina Panthers
Even though offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo was less than complimentary about Baker Mayfield during his pre-draft assessment, he does look like a good scheme fit based on what we’ve seen from the signal-caller so far.
The Carolina Panthers are looking to move forward with a downhill running attack and McAdoo like to get the football out quickly, letting his playmakers do their thing. Something similar to what Mayfield was tasked with on the Cleveland Browns and successfully accomplished more often than not.
Carolina has an improved offensive line and a strong running game providing Christian McCaffrey can stay healthy. They also have an abundance of weapons in the passing game and a tight-end duo that could make substantial strides under McAdoo.
Mayfield does have his faults. But this could be the best possible solution for all parties if a trade is agreed upon sooner rather than later.
It gives Mayfield the chance to instantly start with a nice supporting cast around him. The Panthers would also be getting a signal-caller playing with urgency and a huge chip on his shoulder following his recent treatment by the Browns.
McAdoo’s opinion of Mayfield could have changed by now. But the former New York Giants head coach might be the reason why this trade doesn’t come off when it’s all said and done.
