Not strengthening the tight-end room this offseason was a gamble by the Carolina Panthers. But it’s also a clear indicator that more could be on the way from second-year-pro Tommy Tremble.

The 2021 third-round selection flashed moments of exceptional promise as a rookie. Tremble’s blocking was always going to be of a high standard, but there was uncertainty about what he could bring to the pass-catching ranks against high-caliber opposition at the NFL level.

Tremble remains a work in progress. There is some significant work ahead to improve his route-running and ability to catch effectively under pressure, but the physical attributes he brings to the table are extremely impressive providing everything comes together.

The biggest challenge for Tremble this offseason will be unseating Ian Thomas for the No. 1 spot. Should he accomplish this – which is entirely possible – then plenty of targets could be coming his way within Ben McAdoo’s system.

Maximizing Tremble’s outstanding athleticism is only going to help the Panthers in 2022. He’ll also be a surprise most teams won’t see coming given how little he was utilized last time around.

It’s important for Tremble to hit some specific goals during training camp in Spartanburg. If he earns the trust of McAdoo, then a true breakout campaign is well within his grasp.
