Having some extra financial worries can impact a player’s performance on the field. Although this is some way off for Brian Burns just yet, a new deal from the Carolina Panthers in the coming months would alleviate these thoughts and give the defensive end added confidence for good measure.
Just how much Burns’ representatives will demand when they head to the bargaining table remains to be seen. But the Panthers could relax safe in the knowledge that they’d get a significant return on their investment given that he’s still just 24 years old.
This would be the biggest indicator yet that Burns is a franchise player. But the Panthers might decide to let him play out the 2022 season in the hope it provides an added incentive for the Florida State product to reach new heights.
Obviously, there is the injury possibility to consider given the NFL’s violent nature. A lengthy extension would also remove the possibility of Burns holding out this time next year.
