Carolina Panthers are a QB away from contending

General manager Scott Fitterer stated this offseason that he’d like the Carolina Panthers to be in a position to just drop in a quarterback and take off. Some believe this time has now come after a strong period of recruitment this offseason.

However, that is not the case.

Although Sam Darnold remains the biggest question mark on the roster right now and might not even be under center if the Panthers make a move for someone like Baker Mayfield or Jimmy Garoppolo, there are still other areas that need bolstering before the organization can feel confident about a playoff return.

The pass-rushing depth looks thin, there is the ongoing complication at middle linebacker since Luke Kuechly retired, and it remains to be seen whether the tight end duo of Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble can make a leap forward under Ben McAdoo.

Carolina’s over/under for the 2022 season is currently set at 5.5 according to the latest odds from WynnBET. Adding Mayfield or Garoppolo would improve this, but by how much is the million-dollar question.

In truth, we won’t know for sure until we see this revamped group in a competitive setting. But getting off to a strong start with five of their first six encounters at Bank of America Stadium is an absolute necessity.
