Bravvion Roy – Carolina Panthers DT

Although the defensive line needs bolstering from a depth standpoint, there is still plenty at stake for Bravvion Roy this offseason. The former sixth-round pick out of Baylor flashed moments of promise over his first two years in the league, but there is just something missing regarding his ability to one day become a starter alongside Derrick Brown.

The Carolina Panthers are hoping Phil Hoskins takes a leap forward this summer. Hopefully, 2021 fifth-rounder Daviyon Nixon can return from a serious knee injury and make his presence felt after an encouraging rookie campaign.

This will raise the stakes for Roy, who earned grades of 47.1 and 43.9 from Pro Football Focus for his efforts so far. He is a trusted ally of head coach Matt Rhule stemming back from their college days, which tends to be an advantage more often than not based on the coach’s history in Carolina to date.

Roy has the chance to become No. 3 on the depth chart behind Brown and Matt Ioannidis. But it’s also possible the Panthers have other ideas and they do have the salary-cap space to make something happen should the right opportunity come along.

The interior lineman must rise to the challenge in the coming weeks. What transpires in training camp could even determine Roy’s long-term prospects in Carolina.
