P.J. Walker – Carolina Panthers QB

For all the quality additions made by the Carolina Panthers this offseason, the ongoing cloud at the quarterback position remains the one key area that could hold them back. Unless the team seals a move for a veteran quarterback via trade, then moving forward with their current three options is a monumental gamble that’s unlikely to pay off.

Matt Corral and Sam Darnold would likely compete for a starting job with P.J. Walker also looking to stake a claim. The former XFL MVP candidate’s production when called upon was inconsistent at best last season and it’s highly debatable he can make the strides needed to become Carolina’s No. 1 option in training camp.

With that being said, Walker is a serviceable backup that might even have some trade value if another organization needs to bolster depth before competitive action gets underway. This was a topic recently discussed by Justin Melo from The Draft Network, who listed the Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo Bills, and Pittsburgh Steelers as potential suitors.

Any of these teams would be a great landing spot for Walker. Two teams on the list might even give the former Temple star a Super Bowl ring when it’s all said and done, even if playing time would be extremely limited.

Just how much the Panthers could get for Walker is unclear. But something is better than nothing for a player who could be surplus to requirements in the not-too-distant future.
