Sam Darnold could join the Buffalo Bills

The Carolina Panthers to the Buffalo Bills pipeline has been strong over recent years. Something that has aided the AFC East side enormously with Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane calling the shots.

Much like the situation in Los Angeles, there is absolutely no danger in Sam Darnold unseating Josh Allen or even pressurizing the MVP candidate. Both players came out of college in 2018 but they are on far different trajectories now.

However, with just Case Keenum and Matt Barkley backing up Allen after Mitchell Trubisky signed for the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency, perhaps trading for Darnold on a cheap deal would strengthen things on the depth chart.

That is up for debate when one considers how much success Keenum has acquired during his career compared to Darnold. So much will depend on whether teams now view him as a lost cause rather than a salvageable project entering Year 5 in the league.

As we saw with Trubisky last season, working in Buffalo can be the springboard for another chance. There is also the presence of Joe Brady as quarterbacks coach to consider, who was Darnold’s offensive coordinator before he was fired midway through the bye week.

This is unlikely all things considered. But given the growing connection between the two teams, it cannot be dismissed entirely.
