Much has been made about the Carolina Panthers’ quarterback search this offseason, but could they end up standing firm with their current options in 2022?

All the speculation and rumors swirling about the Carolina Panthers and a potential upgrade at the quarterback position are exhausting. Something that’s stemmed from Sam Darnold’s poor production under center and an added sense of urgency for head coach Matt Rhule to get things right after the former Baylor man got a reprieve from team owner David Tepper this offseason.

Big splashes for Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson didn’t come off. One new signal-caller has arrived in the form of Matt Corral, but whether he has enough to immediately move the needle is another matter.

Conflicting reports continue to emerge about potential trades for Baker Mayfield or Jimmy Garoppolo. Although there remains some about whether specific compromises can be reached to get either into the franchise.

Although it would be a major gamble, here are four reasons why the Panthers might not acquire another veteran signal-caller via trade in 2022.

Carolina Panthers are running out of time

If the Carolina Panthers are intent on finding someone else under center, they’d be wise to get something sorted at the earliest possible opportunity. The team’s training camp is now a little under a month away, so the next fortnight would be absolutely ideal.

This would provide any new recruit with enough time to study the playbook before taking the practice field at Wofford College. The closer we get to July 26, the more complicated it becomes.

Jimmy Garoppolo and Baker Mayfield are also recuperating from shoulder surgeries. So this only makes matters worse if the Panthers want either to hit the ground running in Spartanburg.
