Carolina Panthers should start Frankie Luvu

There was a lot to like about the way Frankie Luvu applied himself from a rotational role last season. The linebacker’s energy and ability to make some big plays in key moments made him an instant fan favorite and the Carolina Panthers made the right call by sorting out a contract extension to keep him around long term.

Luvu looks set to become more involved in a potential starting capacity with Haason Reddick no longer around. Something that could see the Washington State product take his game to new heights if further progress arrives this offseason.

Carolina’s second level on defense remains a worry – especially on the interior – but with Luvu and Shaq Thompson set to line up on the outside, it gives them a productive tandem that will be a considerable asset.

This is a stark contrast to the situation he found himself in last summer. The Panthers brought him in on the cheap with a shot to make the roster and Luvu is now one of the most important defensive players after just one season with the team.

It’ll be exciting and interesting in equal measure to see whether Luvu can take advantage of the significant opportunity awaiting him. But make no mistake, he won’t be found wanting for effort and fans will be backing him every step of the way.
