Carolina Panthers could sign Gerald McCoy

Gerald McCoy is obviously no stranger to the Carolina Panthers having spent one season with the team in 2019. The veteran defensive tackle has endured some tough luck on the injury front since departing the organization, but of all the options remaining in this area of the field, he’s easily one of the most intriguing.

In truth, there’s just no telling how much McCoy has left in the tank. His glittering spell with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is now a distant memory and he’s played just once in the last two years to further heighten doubts.

On his day, McCoy was among the league’s best game-wreckers. He could stop the run with ease and when the time came to get after the quarterback, there were few better at causing havoc from the interior.

The Panthers are devoid of high-quality depth across their defensive front after letting Haason Reddick and DaQuan Jones leave in free agency. Whether McCoy becomes a realistic option is questionable at best, but Carolina would not demand that much from the Oklahoma product, in any case.

McCoy might be done in the NFL and has been working a lot for the NFL Network in an analyst capacity this offseason. A strong indicator that he’s ready to leave the game of football behind.
