Carolina Panthers could sign Jon Bostic

Whether the Carolina Panthers have enough at the linebacker position remains to be seen. They could opt to do things by committee rather than rely on a guaranteed starting trio, but it has the scope to end up being an area of weakness and especially on the interior.

To make matters worse, a potential suspension or early release might be coming for Damien Wilson depending on what happens following an arrest in April which stemmed from an alleged altercation with his ex-girlfriend.

If this forces the Panthers to look at alternatives, then Jon Bostic is someone that could be of interest. The former second-round selection managed just four games in 2021 thanks to a pectoral muscle injury that put him on the shelf, but his production in the two seasons prior to that was far superior to anything Carolina’s had since the great Luke Kuechly retired.

Obviously, Bostic might not be back at full health just yet. However, this is a call that the Panthers might make to find out one way or another before Week 1.

Should this scenario come to fruition and Bostic return to his 2020 form, then the Panthers would be a significant force on defense with very few, if any, weaknesses. But it is not without risk given how much time the Florida product missed last time around.
