Panthers depth chart focus: Are DTs ready to take the next step?

Jacob Tuioti-Mariner and Marquan McCall – Carolina Panthers DTs
We’ve now hit the bottom of the barrel when it comes to defensive tackles on the roster. But last year, nobody expected much out of Phil Hoskins or Daviyon Nixon and they showed some potential.
Marquan McCall is an undrafted rookie out of Kentucky and is expected to be a long shot to make the team. But if he performs well enough, the formidable presence should be able to swing a spot on the Carolina Panthers practice squad.
McCall has plenty of bulk but is very raw when it comes to his skills. However, he has the potential to be a solid run-blocker and could become a surprise with a strong training camp in Spartanburg.
Jacob Tuioti-Mariner was picked up off the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad back in January and has had very limited NFL success since going undrafted in 2018.
Tuioti-Mariner is more than likely a body to be used during training camp and probably won’t be around if everyone stays healthy. But it’ll be interesting to see how the player performs in camp now that he is a little more familiar with what Phil Snow demands from his defensive linemen.
