A.J. Bouye – Former Carolina Panthers CB

With the Carolina Panthers looking for extra financial resources before free agency, those in power took the decision to release A.J. Bouye with one year remaining on his deal. The veteran cornerback provided a solid contribution in 2021, but there are a lot of young players at the position that could make serious strides if given the opportunity moving forward.

This left Bouye on the outside looking in despite his experience and Pro Bowl credentials. What’s more surprising is the fact that he remains a free agent this far into the preparation period.

Perhaps this will change as the season gets closer. However, the Central Florida product isn’t getting any younger and he might have to wait a while yet before another team comes calling.

Bouye earned a creditable 66.8 grade from Pro Football Focus last season. He gave up receptions on 72.1 percent of targets thrown his way and conceded a 91.0 passer rating when the football came in his direction.

It wasn’t the easiest situation for Bouye, who was suspended for the first two games. But even though there were times of struggle, the player showed enough to suggest that he might have one or two good years left before calling it a day.

Whether this chance comes or not remains to be seen.
