Chris Westry – Carolina Panthers CB

One of the more overlooked signings made this offseason was Chris Westry. The talented cornerback performed well for the Baltimore Ravens last season without doing enough for an extended stay, but it didn’t take long for the player to find a new home after the Carolina Panthers came calling.

Westry has reportedly made an impressive start to offseason workouts. And the former Kentucky star offers something a little different to the secondary thanks to his length and physicality.

With that being said, it’s going to be a challenge for Westry to become a prominent part of the defensive back rotation. The Panthers have two guaranteed starters in Jaycee Horn and Donte Jackson, with Keith Taylor and C.J. Henderson also set for key roles a little further down the pecking order.

This is dependent on how many corners Carolina takes onto their roster. It might also be worth Westry becoming influential as a special teamer to further help his cause.

He will certainly be a player to keep a close eye on in training camp. Steve Wilks can be trusted to make the right assessments and if Westry catches the eye, then it might see him brought through onto the team ahead of players like Rashaan Melvin and seventh-round pick Kalon Barnes.
