D’Onta Foreman – Carolina Panthers RB

  • One year, $2 million deal ($940,000 guaranteed)

When Christian McCaffrey began suffering yet more injury problems in 2021, it did not take long for things to unravel for the Carolina Panthers. Their over-reliance on the All-Pro cannot continue and thankfully, this was a sentiment echoed by the front office if the free-agent signing of D’Onta Foreman was any indication.

Foreman was signed off the street by the Tennessee Titans last season when Derrick Henry went down with a long-term problem. The former Texas standout immediately hit the ground running to ensure no momentum was lost as Mike Vrabel’s men secured the AFC’s No. 1 seed against all odds.

This did not go unnoticed by the Panthers, who snapped up Foreman quickly once the legal tampering period began. Providing the player can adapt to a new system and beat out Chuba Hubbard for the primary backup role, he should have a significant part to play in 2022.

Any assistance Foreman can provide would be a huge bonus. His powerful running style can alleviate pressure from McCaffrey’s shoulders and if the Stanford product misses time again, the new arrival has experience filling in for one of the best in the business that should serve him well.

This is a tremendous opportunity for Foreman to establish himself after his career prospects looked bleak this time last year. If he takes this challenge head-on, then the Panthers and especially McCaffrey will reap the rewards.
