Austin Corbett – Carolina Panthers OL

  • Three year, $26.25 million deal ($19.65 million guaranteed)

Not only did the Carolina Panthers secure a new center, they also managed to get their hands on one of the better right guards on the free-agent market. Austin Corbett did his chances of a big payday no harm at all with a telling contribution for the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 en route to a Super Bowl, which got him a nice chunk of change for good measure.

Corbett’s career has been an eventful one. But there were definite signs of growth last season and putting him next to Taylor Moton is only going to improve his fortunes.

The former second-round pick out of Nevada gave up three sacks and two penalties from 1,081 snaps in 2021. Compared to what the Panthers got from the likes of John Miller at the same position, the upturn in production is there for all to see.

This also gives the Panthers a dominant presence in run blocking as well as the obvious benefits in pass protection. Something that should carve bigger holes for Christian McCaffrey and D’Onta Foreman to gain yards on the ground.

Carolina had to shell out more for Corbett than any other free agent this spring. But he could have the biggest impact within a positional group that went through some severe complications on the interior last time around.
