Cam Newton could join the Seattle Seahawks

It would be the biggest risk imaginable if the Seattle Seahawks actually went into the 2022 season with Drew Lock and Geno Smith as their starting quarterback options. A decision that would likely see them in contention to land one of the top college signal-callers from a very deep class in 2023.

That might be at the back of Seattle’s minds. They also find themselves in a tough division that now consists of the defending Super Bowl champions to further heighten concerns.

Whether the Seahawks would consider bringing in Cam Newton in the hope he can provide a better alternative next season is unclear.

There were reportedly talks taking place between both parties earlier this offseason without anything coming from it. Starting conversations again now that the Carolina Panthers have gone with Baker Mayfield could come under consideration.

At least from the outside looking in, this provides Newton with arguably the best chance to compete for a starting gig in an attempt to finish his career on a high. But head coach Pete Carroll has stated his confidence in Lock this offseason after trading Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos.

Newton would provide excitement if nothing else. If it doesn’t work out, then expect someone like C.J. Stroud of Bryce Young to become primary targets next year.
