5 bold predictions following Panthers trade for Baker Mayfield

With Baker Mayfield officially on the Carolina Panthers, we have some bold predictions the fanbase may expect to see in 2022.

On Wednesday, the Carolina Panthers brass finally made a trade many analysts, fans, and media outlets have predicted for weeks. Baker Mayfield is the newest member of the quarterback room at Bank of America Stadium, ending a long pursuit for an upgrade on Sam Darnold in 2022.

Prior to the 2022 NFL Draft, there was speculation the Panthers may select a signal-caller in the first round or create a trade with a willing team. Neither option came to fruition on Day 1, but Scott Fitterer and company selected Matt Carrol out of the Ole Mississippi in the third round to end his concerning slide at No. 94 overall.

This move kept Darnold penciled in as the starter going into training camp without much competition. Something that is sorely needed for improved production, decision making, and growth as a player.

However, after a rough outing during the 2021 season and Rhule on thin ice, some level of shakeup was sorely desired to help bolster the position for a playoff run. This may be the job-saving move keeping the former Baylor man in town for another season.

Mayfield, a collegiate star, has not seen the same level of success during his four-year stint with the Cleveland Browns. But the 27-year-old has shown glimpses of play solidifying his selection as the top overall pick in the 2018 draft.
