Carolina Panthers fans don’t have to watch Sam Darnold
The biggest positive for Carolina Panthers fans is probably the fact they don’t have to see Sam Darnold again. Many supporters were dreading the thought of seeing the former first-round selection under center in 2022 and after what we saw during the previous campaign, who could blame them for being downbeat?
We’ve seen throughout his career even stemming back to college, that Baker Mayfield plays his best football when he has a chip on his shoulder. The way this offseason has transpired one would imagine he arrives in the Queen City with a huge point to prove.
Despite the difficult schedule facing the Panthers, if Mayfield can replicate the form we saw in 2020 then Carolina could be in contention for a wild card spot. This was obviously not feasible at all with Darnold.
The addition of Mayfield also has an added importance as the Panthers open the 2022 season with a home matchup against the Cleveland Browns at Bank of America Stadium.
With Deshaun Watson likely suspended, it means we’ll see Mayfield battling Jacoby Brissett in Week 1. A scenario that could see the signal-caller get instant revenge on the team that cast him aside.
Something that fans will be hoping can be the catalyst for improved fortunes next time around after so much misery of late.
