Baker Mayfield earns Pro Bowl selection
All eyes will be on Baker Mayfield right from the outset next season. A clash against his old employers in Week 1 could be the spark needed for a successful campaign, which could earn the quarterback a bumper new deal with the Carolina Panthers or elsewhere as a result.
Mayfield has a fire within him that’s hard not to love. There is a swagger to his demeanor and this is matched by a fierce competitive streak that will be a tremendous asset to the Panthers if everyone else also demonstrates the same will.
One accolade that has eluded Mayfield over his four-year career is a Pro Bowl selection. It seems like a popularity contest more than anything else these days, but the signal-caller will still be looking at this as a potential target now he has a new place to call home.
If Mayfield is even in the conversation for Pro Bowl recognition in 2022, then it’s another strong indictor that things have gone well in Carolina. Something that might just keep the wolves from Matt Rhule’s door along the way with the pressure mounting on the former Baylor man to turn things around in Year 3 of his tenure.
This could be a power keg waiting to go off. But Mayfield’s arrival could also be the missing piece of the puzzle providing he comes in with the right attitude with a major point to prove.
