Baker Mayfield – Carolina Panthers QB

Baker Mayfield is the talk of the Carolinas after securing a move away from the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday. This represents another gamble for Matt Rhule – his third in as many offseasons – and it’s essential the head coach and the organization overall do everything in their power to make the trade a huge success.

The Carolina Panthers got what could be a good deal for Mayfield if the signal-caller picks things up quickly and uses what transpired in Cleveland as a source of motivation in 2022. He represents an immediate upgrade on Sam Darnold and will also provide Matt Corral with enough time to develop his skills before potentially assuming command under center.

There’s been a lot made of certain comments surrounding Mayfield’s maturity and ability to lead. So watching his overall demeanor and approach in training camp will tell us plenty about whether or not these reports are accurate.

Mayfield was reportedly excited to join Carolina following a pre-trade meeting with Rhule and general manager Scott Fitterer. There is enough at the skill positions to assist and the Panthers can also expect legitimate progress from their offensive line if everyone stays free of injuries.

This could be a win-win for all parties. If Mayfield stands out, then the Panthers can progress for the first time under Rhule and maybe even save the former Baylor man’s job when it’s all said and done.
