Baker Mayfield focused on winning and nothing else

The obvious question that comes to mind where Baker Mayfield is concerned would be his thoughts on his potential debut in Week 1 against the team that cast him aside. The NFL schedule threw up an immediate chance for the quarterback to get one over on the Cleveland Browns, which would be more attainable if Deshaun Watson gets suspended due to sexual misconduct allegations in the not-too-distant future.

This obviously has more meaning for Mayfield. He gave absolutely everything to Cleveland’s cause and played a leading role in the team going from obscurity back into the postseason in a relatively short space of time.

When asked this question, Mayfield claimed that winning is all that matters, and doing whatever’s in his power to help Carolina get back to prominence is his primary objective.

"“To me, it’s about winning games. Whoever we have marked on the schedule, I’m going to try to win. Obviously, this one has a little more history and personal meaning, but for me, it’s about winning and setting the tone for the rest of the year, and however I can help this team do that, I’m going to do.”"

Mayfield is a competitive guy. Week 1 is something he’s already marked in the calendar and it should be an emotional day with plenty of Browns fans expected to be in attendance at Bank of America Stadium.

Playing the game and not the occasion will be of paramount importance for Mayfield. If he can keep his emotions in check and help the Panthers triumph, it represents a solid foundation from which to build.
