Can the Carolina Panthers count on TE duo?

The Carolina Panthers traded for Baker Mayfield in the hope he can unlock this offense’s potential. His production last season wasn’t up to the required standard, but just how much of this was down to regression or the torn labrum in his shoulder remains to be seen.

Mayfield has enough talent to get this offense humming. But the Panthers need their revamped offensive line to provide stern protection and much will also depend on whether Christian McCaffrey can finally string together a consistent run of games.

Another area where the Panthers need more is the tight end spot. Greg Olsen remains sorely missed, so sticking with Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble rather than finding alternatives was a huge call for the organization to make.

Thomas and Tremble were used sparingly by Carolina last season. The introduction of Ben McAdoo as the team’s offensive coordinator should help, but the pair must also make the necessary improvements en route to becoming influential.

Having reliable tight ends in the passing game makes a huge difference. Something the Panthers have been devoid of since Olsen departed for the Seattle Seahawks in 2020 free agency.

If Mayfield and McAdoo can ignite Thomas and Tremble, this offense might be difficult to stop.
