Which Carolina Panthers players are entering the last chance saloon when the team heads to Spartanburg for their annual training camp?

The Carolina Panthers are teetering on the brink regarding their fortunes in 2022. An eye-catching spell of recruitment during free agency and the draft leaves some cause for optimism, with the recent arrival of quarterback Baker Mayfield via trade something else that could have a positive impact when it’s all said and done.

There are still plenty of unknowns surrounding the Panthers. Most notably, whether head coach Matt Rhule has what it takes to get this franchise trending on an upward curve in Year 3 under his leadership.

Carolina does possess talent across the board. So if everything clicks into place during training camp, then the Panthers could get off to a hot start before some sterner tests further down the schedule.

Without further ado, here are five Panthers players who could be entering the last chance saloon in 2022 camp.

Cam Erving – Carolina Panthers OT

It doesn’t appear as if Cam Erving will be in contention to start for the Carolina Panthers next season. And make no mistake, not a single fan will be sorry for this eventuality.

Erving’s arrival within hours of the legal tampering period getting underway was met with confusion and derision in equal measure. The former first-round pick was expected to do much, but his production failed to meet even the lowliest expectations and forced the Panthers into drafting Ikem Ekwonu at No. 6 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.

If Erving fails to impress in training camp, then it wouldn’t be the biggest shock to see Carolina cut its losses entirely despite a hefty dead-cap figure.
