Baker Mayfield cannot develop chemistry with Carolina Panthers pass-catchers

Time is of the essence for Baker Mayfield now that the trade’s been confirmed. The quarterback is planning a pre-training camp throwing session with the team’s primary pass-catchers before heading down to Spartanburg, which should ensure things get off on the right foot when things get a little more intense.

Mayfield must get on the same page with his teammates and the playbook quickly before coming up against his old team in Week 1. The Carolina Panthers have an opportunity to secure a fast start to the campaign before things get tougher further down the schedule, so picking up momentum in the opening few contests could be the catalyst for bigger things in the future.

One cannot help but examine the situations involving Mayfield, Odell Beckham Jr., and Jarvis Landry to see what complications could emerge. This stemmed from a lack of chemistry during the 2022 season and even though the shoulder injury had plenty to do with it, any further complications in Carolina would be disastrous for the signal-caller.

D.J. Moore, Christian McCaffrey, Terrace Marshall Jr., and Robbie Anderson will be the focal points, one suspects. The Panthers are also expecting bigger contributions from Tommy Tremble and Ian Thomas after keeping faith with their current tight end options.

If Mayfield and his pass-catchers cannot become a cohesive unit, then it’s going to be a complication in no uncertain terms.
