4 best and worst-case scenarios for Panthers QB Baker Mayfield in 2022

Baker Mayfield posts career numbers across the board
There’s no doubt about the chip on Baker Mayfield’s shoulder heading into the 2022 season. He freely admitted at being shocked and hurt by the treatment received from the Cleveland Browns this offseason, which is something the player can put to good use in pursuit of proving his doubters wrong.
As it stands right now, Mayfield’s career numbers are as follows:
- 3,827 passing yards (2019)
- 27 touchdowns (2018)
- 63.8 percent completion (2018)
- 8 interceptions (2020)
- 95.9 passer rating (2020)
- 65.5 QBR (2020)
One can excuse his form during the previous campaign to a certain extent. Mayfield soldiered on with a torn labrum from Week 2 onwards, but the Carolina Panthers will be hoping a fully healthy quarterback can return to something like the production we saw in 2020.
The talent is there providing Robbie Anderson and Terrace Marshall Jr. step up their respective contributions. Christian McCaffrey’s return to health should also assist greatly and the Panthers made some outstanding reinforcements to their offensive line in free agency and the 2022 NFL Draft.
Everything is in place for Mayfield to succeed. If he graps the chance awaiting him and embraces a different environment, then some career numbers across the board might be well within his capabilities.
