Carolina Panthers could target Maxx Williams

  • Tight End | Arizona Cardinals

Much has been made about the Carolina Panthers standing pat at the tight end position despite a distinct lack of production from this positional group in the passing game since Greg Olsen left in 2020 free agency.

Tommy Tremble and Ian Thomas need a strong 2022 campaign to install confidence in their long-term fortunes. This will also go a long way to determining whether offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo can thrive in a new environment.

If McAdoo and the Panthers feel like more is needed, then calling the Arizona Cardinals to enquire about the availability of Maxx Williams wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world. The former second-round pick might not have reached the lofty heights expected, but one must factor in how injuries have impacted his time in the league so far.

Williams played just five times last season and Arizona drafted Trey McBride, a physically imposing rookie with significant upside. If this leaves Williams surplus to requirements, then the Panthers could make their play for a potential Day 3 selection.

Hopefully, the Panthers don’t need to make this sort of trade. Thomas and Tremble have all the tools needed to influence proceedings, so it’s on McAdoo to come up with the right solutions in the near future.
