Which Carolina Panthers players are facing a make-or-break training camp ahead of the 2022 season?
We are now a little more than a week away from the Carolina Panthers descending on Wofford College for their annual training camp. This will be a pivotal few weeks for the organization that will go a long way to determining fortunes in 2022.
The Panthers have been incredibly active once again this offseason in pursuit of better results. Significant changes to playing personnel and the coaching staff under Matt Rhule mean there are no more excuses for the head coach, who must start turning his big talk into an improved product when it matters most.
Camp is always a fascinating time of the preparation period. Carolina will be under the microscope more than most due to their high-profile trade for Baker Mayfield and the fact many outside the franchise believe Rhule is firmly on the hot seat.
With that being said, here are four Panthers players who are facing a make-or-break training camp in Spartanburg.
Player No. 1
Deonte Brown – Carolina Panthers OL
With all the additions across the offensive line in recent months, the prospects of Deonte Brown are murkier than ever. The Carolina Panthers got almost nothing from the sixth-round selection throughout his rookie campaign, with weight issues coming to the fore and little meaningful action until the final game.
Brown looks like a dominant interior offensive lineman and had the production to match at Alabama. It hasn’t come together in the pros as yet, so this year’s training camp is a fantastic chance for the player to firmly establish himself on the rotation.
It doesn’t appear as if Brown will emerge as a starting candidate. But impressing offensive line coach James Campen and others could see him occupy a primary backup role next time around.
