David Tepper – Carolina Panthers owner
The honeymoon period for Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper is over. There’s absolutely no getting away from that after another turbulent offseason.
Carolina’s fanbase is quickly directing their anger towards the billionaire, who promised much upon buying the franchise from Jerry Richardson but delivered very little so far.
Even his crown jewel – the Panthers’ new headquarters in Rock Hill – fell by the wayside this spring due to payment disputes that threaten to get extremely messy during court proceedings in the not-too-distant future.
This situation is a microcosm of how things have transpired for Tepper. Carolina has yet to attain a winning season during his stint as owner and handing Matt Rhule another year as head coach is another monumental call that isn’t guaranteed to come with success.
If Rhule fluffs his lines once again, then the decision to bring him on board and hand the former Temple coach such a bumper contract with no legitimate NFL experience will be mocked. Something that won’t go down well with Tepper, whose stubbornness could be his downfall when it’s all said and done.
Charlotte has not been blessed with the greatest ownership with Tepper and Michael Jordan. Whether either can grow with additional experience is another matter.
