Mike Davis – Former Carolina Panthers RB

Considering what’s transpired with Christian McCaffrey last season, the Carolina Panthers could have done with keeping Mike Davis around as the primary backup. Chuba Hubbard performed well enough for a fourth-round pick, but it’s hard to argue that the veteran wouldn’t have been a better option in the grand scheme of things.

Davis went over 1,000 all-purpose yards for the Panthers in 2020 when McCaffrey went to the sidelines. This earned him a good deal from the Atlanta Falcons in free agency, but the emergence of Cordarrelle Patterson as a dynamic dual-threat meant his services were no longer required.

Thankfully for Davis, he wasn’t out of work long after penning a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens. The South Carolina product will look to establish himself as a rotational piece alongside the likes of Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins, which could get him another revenge game against the Panthers if this objective comes to fruition.

Davis has previous experience of this, so he’ll know how to handle such an occasion. Just how involved he’ll be once Dobbins returns to full health is another matter entirely.

As for the Panthers, they finally got themselves a powerful presence in the backfield with the signing of D’Onta Foreman in free agency. But their fortunes obviously rest on whether McCaffrey can put a consistent run of games together.
