Juston Burris – Carolina Panthers S

It was another frustrating season for Juston Burris in 2021. The safety was once again the victim of some terrible injury luck that restricted him to just 10 games and although the Carolina Panthers brought him back on a one-year deal, his chances of starting for the third-straight campaign appear remote.

The Panthers got themselves a productive partner for Jeremy Chinn after scooping up Xavier Woods from the Minnesota Vikings in free agency. This should relegate Burris to the primary backup role, but he’ll have to fight hard in training camp to achieve this objective.

Carolina is expecting Kenny Robinson to take another substantial leap after an encouraging contribution in 2022. Myles Hartsfield also has the versatility to fill in when needed and Sean Chandler’s close ties to head coach Matt Rhule might be enough to secure a roster spot.

Burris is experienced enough to know all this. But the former North Carolina State standout needs to make a lasting impression on defensive backs coach Steve Wilks in Spartanburg to carve out a role for himself.

If not, then the likes of Robinson and Hartsfield might push themselves above Burris in the pecking order ahead of a clash against his old team in Week 1.
