Which young Carolina Panthers players could make a surprising impact when the team head to Wofford College for their annual training camp?
For those with less experience within the Carolina Panthers locker room, the team’s upcoming training camp will be a rude awakening about what it takes to become a success in the NFL. There will be plenty of trials and tribulations, but the coaching staff is relying heavily on youth once again in 2022 despite having a nice blend of veterans thrown in for good measure.
This is not an easy situation for any young player. The Panthers are teetering on the brink after three straight five-win campaigns and any further underachievement will likely come with monumental changes in positions of power.
That is for the future. What’s important for these aspiring pros is carving out their own path with a view to potentially seeing the field either right out of the gate or later in the campaign.
With this in mind, here are four young Panthers who could surprise in their 2022 training camp.
Player No. 1
Kalon Barnes – Carolina Panthers CB
Speed kills in the NFL. Something the Carolina Panthers took advantage of once again during the draft as part of their ongoing recruitment strategy.
Kalon Barnes blew up the NFL Scouting Combine with one of the fastest 40-yard dash times ever recorded. He is also a former Matt Rhule player from their time together at Baylor, so integrating into Phil Snow’s scheme once again should be an easy task.
Whether Barnes can turn himself from a raw project to a consistent cornerback in such a short space of time is highly debatable. But his physical attributes should ensure a big play or two in Spartanburg.
