How can the Carolina Panthers get Baker Mayfield up to speed quickly?

In an ideal world, the Carolina Panthers would have got Baker Mayfield into the building a lot sooner than they did. But those in power felt biding their time to get a better deal was a risk worth taking before all sides came to a worthy compromise.

The Panthers ended up paying just $5 million guaranteed for Mayfield and will likely end up handing over a 2024 fourth-round pick. Not bad business by any stretch, but the signal-caller must pick things up quickly in training camp before his revenge tour.

This is nothing new to Mayfield, who had to acquire plenty of information upon transferring from Texas Tech to Oklahoma in college and has also altered offensive coordinators frequently in the pros.

It will be a crash course in developing chemistry with his primary playmakers for Mayfield, who must also form a good relationship with Ben McAdoo to ensure the Panthers hit the ground running in 2022.

Not the easiest of tasks for Mayfield. But the player thrives when his back’s against the wall and will be taking this challenge head-on before starting against his former team in Week 1.

Carolina took another swing at the most important position on the field. While Mayfield has more about him than Darnold, just how much this shifts the needle is up for debate.
