4 recent Panthers draft picks under threat ahead of 2022 camp

Deonte Brown – Carolina Panthers OL
The weight issues surrounding Deonte Brown during his pre-draft evaluation process came to light with the Carolina Panthers in 2021. This left the Alabama product on the fringes until Week 17 and considering the improvements made across the offensive line throughout the offseason, a similar role might be all the interior lineman can hope for as a sophomore.
Brown is a man mountain that enjoyed a productive college career with the Crimson Tide. The Panthers thought they were getting good value in the sixth round and it’s still too early to be giving up on the player just yet despite an anonymous rookie campaign.
With that being said, what transpires with Brown in training camp is going to be telling. Making the most of every practice rep and preseason game is of critical importance, which is heightened by the increased competition further down the depth chart.
If Brown puts it all together, then the Panthers are going to benefit. This is a commanding force at the peak of his powers and although he was never going to have it all his own way at the next level, not being involved is a damning indictment of how the coaching staff perceived his progress.
Ultimately, the ball is in Brown’s court. But a frantic offseason of recruitment on the protection should provide the player with all the motivation he needs in pursuit of forcing his way into the team’s plans.
