What position battles should fans keep a close eye on when the Carolina Panthers descend on Spartanburg for their annual training camp?
The wait is almost over.
After a long offseason, the Carolina Panthers will soon return to action when they report to training camp on the campus of Wofford College down in Spartanburg. And make no mistake, there will be plenty of fierce competition in the stifling South Carolina humidity,
Despite a tough schedule on the books for Carolina, a strong offseason with improvements made at many positions of need has left the Panthers with their strongest roster in recent memory.
This improved strength in depth means we may see some interesting camp battles to decide depth chart positioning. Matt Rhule and his new look coaching staff will be keeping a close eye on things in what one would imagine is a vitally important year for the former Baylor man.
Despite murmurings of a five-year plan, compiling a 10-23 record in his first two years in charge was not ideal. It also means Rhule is under pressure to make strides during a pivotal third season at the helm.
General manager Scott Fitterer – who seems to have taken more control off the field – has worked well this offseason to build a solid roster for Rhule to work with. Leaving no doubt that the head coach must show improvement to avoid further questions about his future.
With that being said, here are four must-watch Panthers position battles to monitor in training camp.
