Carolina Panthers WR2

  • Terrace Marshall Jr. vs. Robby Anderson

Outside of quarterback, one could argue the most discussed Carolina Panthers players are named above, and they’ve been talked about for opposite reasons.

Local press present during OTA’s and minicamp noted regularly the improvement shown by 2021 second-round pick Terrace Marshall Jr. The former LSU standout – who was a star in the preseason a year ago – struggled to make an impact in his rookie year thanks to a mixture of injuries and poor quarterback play, meaning he could not have the desired impact.

It’s been a tumultuous offseason for Robbie Anderson. To put it mildly.

After a stark regression in 2021, the Temple product has been all over social media this offseason. From his public disapproval of the Panthers making a trade for Baker Mayfield to tweets about possibly retiring, Anderson hasn’t been far from the spotlight.

Anderson missed the voluntary portion of the offseason program and clarified his comments during minicamp – even accusing the media of “forcing a narrative”. However, it’s hard to argue the wideout hasn’t covered himself in glory following a poor season in 2021.

If Anderson fails to bounce back after a poor campaign and Marshall continues to progress as expected, it’s possible they could switch depth chart places before Week 1. Furthermore, if the veteran doesn’t show the form that earned him a contract extension just 12 months ago, Carolina could move on completely in the not-too-distant future.
