What potential surprises could emerge within the Carolina Panthers during the team’s annual training camp over the next few weeks?

Players and coaches will soon be unpacking suitcases and enjoying their final few hours of rest before the Carolina Panthers training camp gets underway tomorrow. With the first practice set for Wednesday, it promises to be hot, intense, and intriguing as head coach Matt Rhule looks to put the necessary foundations in place for a successful campaign in 2022.

Easier said than done, obviously. The Panthers haven’t had much to shout about in recent years and unless Rhule can turn things around next season, then further changes could be afoot in positions of power.

There is plenty of competition for places, which is what general manager Scott Fitterer wanted to accomplish this offseason. This added sense of urgency could make a substantial difference when the regular season arrives and considering what’s expected of the Panthers, every little bit helps.

Without further ado, here are four potential surprises that could emerge throughout Carolina’s training camp in 2022.

Carolina Panthers WR Keith Kirkwood stakes his claim

One move that went relatively overlooked this offseason was Keith Kirkwood’s return. The wide receiver looked set to make waves last season before a controversial hit in training camp that resulted in J.T. Ibe being released derailed any chances he had of making a lasting impression.

Kirkwood did see the field briefly, bringing in three receptions from seven targets. There is an enormous amount of talent fighting for roles in the wideout room, but the former Temple star can be of use providing there are no further complications.

One or two receivers will catch the eye in camp, which is the case every year. Don’t be surprised if Kirkwood falls into this category when it’s all said and done.
