Carolina Panthers use multiple LB formations

The coaching staff won’t be giving too much away in front of fans and the media during training camp. They don’t know who’s watching or taking notes, after all.

But that doesn’t mean we won’t get to see how the Carolina Panthers are going to operate in certain areas. One, in particular, could see a few surprises thrown in compared to what many anticipate before they take the field in Spartanburg.

Carolina has been blessed with some exceptional linebackers in franchise history. Things have taken a big fall since Luke Kuechly retired, so it’ll be interesting to see how the Panthers approach things at the second level this time around.

Shaq Thompson remains the focal point and his leadership is unquestioned. But the Panthers let Haason Reddick and Jermaine Carter leave this spring, so there could be a committee approach depending on the situation.

For example, Damien Wilson thrives against the run and Cory Littleton excels in coverage. Combining the two situationally might be the best avenue forward for the Panthers on the interior depending on how each performs in camp.

This also bears significance to pass-rushing situations. Frankie Luvu and Marquis Haynes will provide energy coming off the edge, but how they are deployed will be telling.
