Carolina Panthers could sign Dee Ford

It was inevitable that Dee Ford would get his marching orders from the San Francisco 49ers given his recent injury history and salary-cap figure. This was officially confirmed on Monday and sent the rumor mill flying about where his next destination will be.

Ford’s move to the Niners was frustrating thanks to a series of unfortunate injuries that derailed any chance he had of making a considerable impact. The talented defensive lineman came into the franchise with lofty credentials after starring for the Kansas City Chiefs, but he managed just 18 games in three seasons and was shown the door soon after passing his medical.

This is something that might interest the Carolina Panthers if their pursuit of Carlos Dunlap does end in failure. Ford would not be tasked with filling a starting role one suspects, which might be the best way to keep the former first-round pick fresh and firing on all cylinders based on the last three years.

Teams across the league are always willing to take a chance on someone like Ford. He is a proven performer with a career-high of 13 sacks, although 2018 was a long time ago now.

It seems like a low-risk, high-reward scenario for the Panthers in pursuit of bolstering their defensive front. But whether it’s something that would entice Ford is the big question.
