Carolina Panthers defense made things difficult for Baker Mayfield

After Baker Mayfield torched the defense on Day 2 of the team’s training camp, those on this side of the football were in no mood for it to happen again. While the quarterbacks had some nice moments, Phil Snow’s talented group was not going to let any signal-caller get the better of them during red-zone drills this time around.

Mayfield fared a little better than Darnold in this particular drill, but neither quarterback managed to make a big impression after a tremendous display of coverage from the Carolina Panthers secondary throughout.

This swinging momentum is something that’s evident throughout any training camp. One day the offense lights it up and the defense could take charge the next.

Nobody wants to see either side struggling greatly for a prolonged period. That’s when the problems might surface when the real action gets underway during the regular season.

Next up for Mayfield and the Panthers is Back Together Saturday at Gibbs Stadium, which was moved to 11 a.m due to inclement weather in Spartanburg later in the afternoon.

It should be a more relaxed atmosphere with plenty of fans in attendance. But everyone will still have their eyes on the Heisman Trophy winner and analyze every throw with great interest.
