What were some critical observations to take from Day 3 of Carolina Panthers training camp practice at Wofford College in Spartanburg?

Now that the acclamation period has ended for the Carolina Panthers, intensity is rapidly growing within the team’s training camp. Competition for places is fierce and there seems to be an added sense of seriousness across the board in keeping with how much is at stake for the organization in 2022.

Matt Rhule and other coaches have utilized the entire depth chart in various positions to further bolster their knowledge before finalizing their plans. The Panthers possess an abundance of talent and it’s been refreshing to see everyone on the same page in pursuit of the same goal.

This is something that was missing for large parts of the previous campaign. Things unraveled quickly after a 3-0 start, which led to scapegoats being sacrificed and players passing the buck on countless occasions.

We are still early in the process, but things are evolving quickly. Here are four key observations from practice Day 2 in camp.

Key Observation No. 1

Carolina Panthers gave Christian McCaffrey the day off

Erring on the side of caution where Christian McCaffrey is highly important for the Carolina Panthers moving forward. Their best offensive weapon has endured some torrid luck with injuries over the last two seasons, so taking every possible precaution is the only realistic avenue in camp and during the upcoming campaign.

The Panthers gave McCaffrey a rest day on Friday as they manage his workload. He should resume practice at Back Together Saturday, but it’s unlikely the former first-round pick will be risked during the preseason.

This is nothing out of the ordinary. And after so much inactivity, it’s clear something also has to change regarding how McCaffrey is utilized on gameday.
