Carolina Panthers getting plenty from Xavier Woods
The free-agent signing of Xavier Woods from the Minnesota Vikings has gone overlooked in the grand scheme of things. This has a lot to do with the safety being unavailable for early workouts after dealing with a personal issue.
Woods is set to line up alongside Jeremy Chinn on the backend in 2022. A dynamic tandem that should provide the secondary with a playmaking partnership that wasn’t there previously.
The former sixth-round selection wasted no time in making his presence felt on defense. Woods’ contribution and leadership have been eye-catching so far, which has also drawn considerable praise from head coach Matt Rhule along the way.
One thing Rhule highlighted more than anything else was Woods’ communication. He is constantly talking with his teammates and putting them in the best position, which is something the player benefitted from last time around lining up alongside perennial All-Pro Harrison Smith in Minnesota.
Finding a productive partner for Chinn was essential for the Panthers this offseason, In Woods, they might just have found what they’ve been looking for.
The player himself also stated his excitement at joining a defense loaded with gifted young players. If Woods can play his part, then this group has the chance to be nothing short of exceptional in 2022.
