Carolina Panthers benefitting from Baker Mayfield/Rashard Higgins connection

Seeing familiar faces upon joining a new team always helps smooth the transition. For Baker Mayfield, one of his most trusted pass-catchers just so happened to arrive a few short weeks before the quarterback’s trade was officially confirmed.

Rashard Higgins spent considerable time working with Mayfield during their stint together on the Cleveland Browns. Something that’s clearly helped chemistry in a different environment.

This was once again evident at Back Together Saturday. Mayfield threw a beautiful ball in Higgins’ direction during 11-on-11 that was successfully brought in by the wideout, who is looking to stake his own claim after things ended on a sour note statistically in Cleveland.

Any help Mayfield can get during this period of transition, the better.

His blossoming chemistry with D.J. Moore was noticeable on Day 2. If Higgins can also raise his performance levels accordingly, it could lead to a significant upturn in production as a result.

The Carolina Panthers boast a crowded wide receiver room with plenty vying for targets in 2022. Higgins appears to be pretty low down the pecking order behind Moore, Robbie Anderson, and Terrace Marshall Jr., so thriving in the preseason is absolutely essential for the wideout in pursuit of playing time.
