After all the rumors, movement, and everything in between during the offseason, the Carolina Panthers finally got back down to business for their annual training camp. The humid conditions were there immediately, with the first few sessions seeing players bedded in slowly before things get serious when the pads come on.

The Panthers have increased competition for places following a busy period of recruitment throughout the offseason. Something that’s transitioned over to the practice field with a much more professional approach than previous years under head coach Matt Rhule.

This is also thanks in no small part to the influx of coaches with legitimate NFL credentials. There is no margin for error anymore, which is evident with an added sense of urgency across the organization from top to bottom in Spartanburg.

Without further ado, we picked out five major standouts from Week 1 of Carolina’s training camp.

Major Standout No. 1

C.J. Henderson – Carolina Panthers CB

Year 3 is an important one for C.J. Henderson. The cornerback has flattered to deceive over his career so far and unless things change quickly with the Carolina Panthers in 2022, his future prospects could suffer as a result.

Henderson has stood out considerably over the first week of practice. The former first-round selection looks more comfortable in the scheme and working alongside defensive backs coach Steve Wilks is clearly having a positive impact.

Carolina’s secondary is expected to be good next season. If Henderson can build on this and make a bigger impression when the real action arrives, it’s going to give this unit a major shot in the arm.
