Matt Corral – Carolina Panthers QB

Baker Mayfield’s arrival might have taken all the headlines and left Matt Corral with a reduced role in training camp, but the Carolina Panthers must be thrilled with what they’ve seen from the rookie quarterback so far.

The Ole Miss product looks every bit the franchise player those in power hope he will become one day, displaying elite mentality and showcasing his immense throwing ability throughout the team’s training camp over Week 1.

It’s been refreshing to see Corral approaching almost every drill with desire and urgency in equal measure. While it’s unlikely he’ll assume command of the No. 1 job right out of the gate, the Panthers can be confident of his long-term fortunes after surging up to No. 94 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft to bring him on board.

Corral’s accuracy, poise, and lightning-fast release have all caught the eye on occasions over the first week. There is every chance the signal-caller can build on this in the coming days, which would likely see him become the team’s primary backup if Mayfield starts as expected.

How Corral performs as things get tenser when the pads come on this week will be telling. But he’s off to a good start and hopefully, this is a trend that can continue long into the future.
