Carolina Panthers should consider Everson Griffen

Losing Marquis Haynes at this stage of the offseason is a body blow to the Carolina Panthers. Hopefully, the Ole Miss product won’t be out too long, but a contingency plan needs to be formed if the worst-case scenario comes to fruition regarding his status.

One potential wildcard that the Panthers could discuss is Everson Griffen. From a production standpoint, the former USC standout appears to have plenty left in the tank, but mental health issues and an incident at his home last season brought his final campaign with the Minnesota Vikings to an abrupt halt.

Obviously, checking in to see how Griffen is doing would be the first step. The defensive end is reportedly looking to continue his career, although no offer has been forthcoming as yet after the Vikings’ new regime went in a different direction.

Griffen has 85.5 career sacks to his name. His leadership would also be a significant asset to a young defense expected to achieve great things in 2022.

At 34 years old, Griffen’s best days are clearly behind him. However, there aren’t many better options available on the market right now given his prolonged consistency and ability to cause havoc.
