4 key observations from Panthers 2022 training camp practice Day 10

Carolina Panthers WR Shi Smith had a nice day
Competition for places is fierce lower down the wide receiver pecking order. This is a nice problem to have for the Carolina Panthers, who could see major improvements from their pass-catchers in 2022 after most flattered to deceive last time around.
One player who caught the eye in a big way on Monday was Shi Smith. The former sixth-round selection was seldom seen as a rookie, but there was a lot to like about the way he applied himself throughout the session.
The South Carolina product came up with some tremendous catches and demonstrated his route-running expertise to full effect. At a time when every rep matters, Smith is building some nice momentum ahead of potential involvement during the Panthers’ upcoming preseason games.
Carolina has D.J. Moore, Robbie Anderson, and Terrace Marshall Jr. atop the wideout depth chart. One would also assume Rashard Higgins is a lock to make the team thanks to his previous and ongoing connection with quarterback Baker Mayfield.
That leaves Smith fighting it out with others who’ve also made a positive mark throughout camp. This was another step in the right direction, but what transpires in Carolina’s warmup games will likely determine where the roster spots are allocated.
