The Carolina Panthers are currently in the final stages of their annual training camp in Spartanburg before leaving Wofford College on Wednesday. This will be followed by Fan Fest at Bank of America Stadium and the team’s first preseason game against the Washington Commanders and former head coach Ron Rivera on Saturday as the 2022 campaign draws ever closer.

It’s been an intense and more structured camp where the Panthers are concerned. This comes from additional experience within the roster and the coaching staff, which should bode well when it’s time to begin their journey in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns.

Carolina still has some questions to answer. Matt Rhule is also intent on splitting reps at key positions despite the potential disruption to cohesion, especially on the offensive line and at the quarterback spot.

Although gaining targets when competitive action arrives will be difficult for someone like C.J. Saunders, the unfancied wide receiver has enjoyed an extremely impressive camp to propel himself into roster contention.

Saunders’ route-running has come on leaps and bounds. There is also dependability when balls come in his direction that cannot be overlooked given how the Carolina Panthers struggled in this area of the field in 2021.

Couple this with the potential to make a difference on special teams, and Saunders is now a lively outsider to make the team rather than being stashed on the practice squad.
